Murtala Mohammed Airport Cleaner gets N7,200 Salary Increment for Returning N12Million

Josephine Ugwu, the airport cleaner who returned a passenger’s luggage containing local and foreign currencies to the tune of N12m has been rewarded with a N7,200 salary increment.

Ugwu, who works for Patovilki Cleaning Services, a concessionaire engaged by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria tokeep the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos clean, was on a monthly salary of N7,800 before the incident.

The National Diploma graduate of Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agriculture and Technology, Enugu, now enjoys a N7,200 salary increment, bringing her new salary to N15,000.During a visit to the airport on Monday,PUNCH Metro interacted with Ugwu’s colleagues who expressed disappointment that such act of uncommon integrity was not noticed by the government.

They argued that a society that was quick to mete out punishment to offenders should also be quick to reward exemplary behaviour. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of Ugwu’s colleagues lamented that the government did not have a culture of rewarding and encouraging exemplary behaviour.

She said:“Some people have abused her and called her a fool for returning the bag. It now looks as if what she did was wrong. Most people will not be motivated to follow her lead when faced with similar situation. The government should have, at least, sent her a commendation letter for what she did.”Another colleague, identified simply as Faith, also expressed disappointment.

She said Ugwu had returned passengers’ luggage with money in them for a record third time and all three had gone unnoticed. She said:“Twice in December 2014, she returned passengers’ luggage with huge sums of money in them. One contained about N600,000 and the other had close to N2m.if it were to be a case of stealing and she was caught, I am sure the government would have been quick to send her to jail.”Ugwu, however, said she had no regrets for what she did, but would not mind being compensated. She said:“I believe that a good name is better than riches.

This incident has taken my name far and wide and I am happy that it is for a good cause. God’s reward is the ultimate, but if the government will give me a proper job as promised, I will be happy.

My company on its part has tried and I am grateful for the management’s action. My salary has been increased and I have also been promoted.”Mrs. Eunice Anumudu, Ugwu’s supervisor at the airport, praised her integrity and uprightness, saying that Ugwu had become a role model, not only for her colleagues, but for all Nigerians.“What she did is worthy of emulation. Many people in her shoes would have done otherwise. She is a role model to her colleagues and to all Nigerians. I will be happy if the government can do something to encourage her,” she said.

Chimamanda Adichie's Interview Lastnight

Interviewer: Were you taken aback by the success of both TEDx talks?

Chimamanda: Yes, I was taken aback by the success of both of those talks. "The things I think will do really well are not the things that do really well." I said yes to the 2013 TED invitation mainly because it was organised by my brother, Chuks, who works in information technology and development, and I wanted to help him out. "But I thought, I don't have anything to talk about. I'm not the kind of person who can manufacture things when I don't care deeply about them. But my brother said, well, there is this one thing you give us endless lectures about…" "Because it's known in my family, you don't want to demean women in my presence! And I knew this wasn't a comfortable subject, particularly for the people I was addressing, an African audience. "I was still writing it when I went up to speak, and afterwards, clearly people had listened, clearly people felt strongly about it - but I let it go. So they put it online, and only then I heard about people using it in their classes, about people arguing about it at work and school." But the approach from BeyoncĂ© was unexpected.

Interviewer: What do you think about the Beyonce's collaboration?

Chimamanda: The one thing I will say is that I really do think Beyoncé is a force for good, as much as celebrity things go. I know there has been lot of talk in the past year about how feminism is 'cool' now, but I think if we are honest, it's not a subject that's easy. She didn't have to do this, she could have taken on, I don't know, world peace. Or nothing at all. And I realise that so many young people in our celebrity-obsessed world, well, suddenly they are thinking about this. And that's a wonderful thing. So I don't have any reservations about having said yes."

Interviewer: What makes you angry? Do you get in trouble for speaking your mind?

Chimamanda: The oppression of women, she says, "Makes me angry. I can't not be angry. I don't know how you can just be calm. My family says to me, 'Oh, you're such a man!' - you know, very lovingly… But of course I'm not, I just don't see why I shouldn't speak my mind."
..................

She got into trouble for speaking her mind in Nigeria: when an interviewer addressed her as Mrs Chimamanda Adichie, she corrected him, saying she wished to be known as "Ms", which the journalist reported as "Miss". Her insistence on her own family name was all over the news here last spring. She should be happy to be addressed as "Mrs", she was told, since she was, after all, married. She laughs now, but it's clear the story still disturbs her. "It was the lack of gratitude on my part for having a husband. And yet I didn't want to proclaim it: I wanted to claim my own name."

Interviewer: What do you think of race in Nigeria.

Chimamanda: "In Nigeria I'm not black," she says simply. "We don't do race in Nigeria. We do ethnicity a lot, but not race. My friends here don't really get it. Some of them sound like white Southerners from 1940. They say, 'Why are black people complaining about race? Racism doesn't exist!' It's just not a part of their existence."

Interviewer: Her thoughts on "Half of a yellow Sun", the movie and Lupita purchasing film rights to Americanah.

Chimamanda: And with the film of Half of a Yellow Sun - I remember Thandie Newton saying to me that it was important to her because you don't usually get to see black love on the screen this way." I had almost no involvement with the film "because my book means so much to me", but she was pleased with it, despite the fact that it was a small production. "It was very indie; they shot it in 12 days or something. I sometimes imagine what it would have been if it had been a grand production. But I do think it's a film that was lovingly done."
.............................

As, doubtless, Americanah will be: optioned by Brad Pitt's company Plan B, it is to star Lupita Nyong'o, the Mexican-Kenyan actress from 12 Years a Slave, for whom Adichie "writes with the voice of a modern Africa, where ideas of tradition and modernity interact… She is witty, frank and compassionate, and her writing feels timeless and contemporary at once." Nyong'o was an admirer of Adichie's books long before she was cast in Americanah: "For the first time I felt that someone had found the words to express sentiments, analyse situations about the rich and varied African immigrant experience, in a way I never could."

FC Barcelona Sacks Zubizarreta

Barcelona have terminated the
contract of sporting director Andoni
Zubizarreta, the Catalan club
announced on Monday.
Zubizarreta took up the role in 2010
as Sandro Rosell succeeded Joan
Laporta as president, but was an unpopular figure among many
of the fans following the side's troubles in the transfer market in
recent years.
"The president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has
decided to rescind the contract of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta
," the Blaugrana announced in a statement on
Monday.
"The president, in the name of the club, would like to thank
Andoni Zubizarreta for his contribution, dedication and
professionalism in these four years as sporting director."
Zubizarreta played for Barca between 1986 and 1994, appearing
more than 400 times for the Catalan club.
The Basque had been in a precarious position for some time, but
his public criticism of Bartomeu on Sunday appears to have
been the final straw for the Barca board.
Asked - after Luis Enrique's side had lost 1-0 at Real Sociedad -
about the club's transfer ban for irregularities in the signing of
young players, Zubizarreta said: "I take full responsibility for my
duties. [But] Mr. Bartomeu knows the situation better than
anyone as he was sporting vice-president during that time."

Sport flash: Lucas Podoski joins Inter on six months loan
Arsenal and Germany star has arrived in Milan to a joyous
welcome from the club's supporters and will undergo a medical
on Saturday
Lukas Podolski has spoken of his
delight as he closes in on a six-
month loan deal with Inter.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said
the Serie A club had tabled a "more
serious" bid for the Germany
international on Thursday after slamming their opening offer as
"farcical" and the two sides have now reached an agreement
which will see the forward join the Serie A side for the rest of the
season.
The attacker landed in Milan on Friday night to a warm welcome
from a large crowd of Nerazzurri fans and will look to seal the
move after undergoing a medical on Saturday.
Mancini has underlined the qualities which he feels Podolski
could bring to San Siro and the 29-year-old is now keen to help
his new side qualify for the Champions League.
"I am very happy to be joining Inter," Podolski told reporters.
"I expect so much from this adventure. I know the Italian league
very well. We are aiming to qualify for the Champions League
and to win in the Europa League.
"I have spoken with Mancini and I think he is a great coach."
Podolski has been repeatedly vocal with his desire to leave
Arsenal since the summer after failing to start a Premier League
game this season.

According to DailyMail, search teams hunting for the

Jennifer Lopez Expalins how Hard it was to Break up with Ex Husband Marc Anthony

Jennifer Lopez is yet to get over the fact that she has parted
ways with her husband of 10 years, Marc Anthony. The 45
year old singer broke down in tears while admitting she felt
she was 'going to die' when they broke up. She
however insisted she tried her very best to make their
relationship work but it wasn't to be and she experienced
more pain than she ever had before when the former couple
went through a divorce.

Speaking on HBO documentary Jennifer Lopez: Dance Again,
the emotional star said: 'I remember being on the set and
being in my dressing room and not feeling like I could get up
in the morning and there's just no pain like that. 'There's no
pain or failure like going through a divorce. 'That hope, that
dream, that fairytale, with that first time that dream gets
blown to pieces, you feel like you're going to die. 'You feel like
you failed. You feel like no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't
make it work.'

Thursday 1 January 2015

By the end of the year, many will say 'all is well that ends well.'' - Pastor E.A Adeboye

Adeboye made these predictions at the crossover service held
at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos - Ibadan
Expressway, Ogun State, to usher in year 2015.
Reeling out the New Year predictions at about 1:15 a. m.
before a mammoth crowd that gathered at the Arena Ground
of the camp, the septuagenarian cleric, whose predictions
hardly go unfulfilled, said God said the world should pray
against "massive calamities, massive earthquakes and strong
hurricanes and typhoons."
For Nigeria, expectedly, the man of God was not forthcoming
in reeling out the mind of God in details, as, according to him,
2015 being an election year, he has to be miser with what
God has told him about Nigeria.
"Unfortunately, because it is election year, I can't tell you all
that God told me about Nigeria. But I will tell you this: "By
the end of the year, many will say 'all is well that ends well.'"
The holiness preacher, who was clad in blue short-sleeve
suit, however, did not go further to explain what God meant
by "all is well that ends well," keeping the entire congregation
in suspense as he gave no other prediction concerning the
country hinging it on the sensitivity of the election year.
On what members of RCCG should expect in the New Year,
the cleric, fondly called Daddy G.O. by all and sundry, told
the gathering that the prophecies would be relayed to them
through their pastors.
On prophecies about individuals, the seer said for members
of the church, who obeyed the instruction to fast for 100 in
2014, they should expect great harvest of blessings from
God.
He said God told him that 2015 will be a year of dreams
fulfillment, miraculous completion of projects, miraculous
restorations and a year that will replete with testimonies such
that "those who have none before will have some this year."
The crossover service began with a Holy Communion service
which was the last for year 2014 and thereafter a service of
songs in which the GO's wife, Folu and her ensemble as well
as the Mass Choir of the mission thrilled the congregation
with theme hymns composed by Pastor Adeboye for previous
annual programmes of the church.

Individual
For those who fasted for 100 days last year.
1. The Lord says the harvest for the 100 days fast will be
given this year.
2. Daddy says this year will be full of testimonies, those who
have non before will have this year.
3. Daddy says some of you will swim in the river of
abundance this year.
4. Daddy says there will be miraculous completion of
projects.
5. Daddy says there will be fulfillment of dreams.
6. Daddy says there will be miraculous restoration.
7. Daddy says the song of many will be – The Lord has been
good to me.

International
1. Scientific and medical breakthrough will be many,
particularly in the areas of lack of sleep, dreams and brain
disorder.
2. Daddy says Ebola will die out.
3. Daddy says all over the world insurgencies will be
considerately weakened.
4. He asked us to pray against massive calamities.
5. He asked us to pray against massive earthquakes, strong
hurricane and  typhoons.
For RCCG
1. This year all you need is to charge off your batteries by
fasting for 40 days only.
Those of you who want to fast continuously 20 days and 20
nights will cover the 40 days.
If you miss one day, you have to cover it with two days.
Nigeria
By the end of the year – you will say all is well that ends
well.

The fasting begins January 2nd 2015.
“We read to know we are not alone. When life gives you
a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a
thousand reasons to smile."

Failed Suicide Attack at ECWA church Gombe Earlier Today

A suicide bomber reportedly pieces him/her self at the gate of ECWA church in Gombe this morning at around 9am when the church was holding its annual new year service...
A member of the church who was present to speak with thecable said
“The suicide bomber was targeting the church.
But thankfully, it was impossible to access the
main building. The bomb was detonated at the
gate,” a member of the church told TheCable on

He could also not confirm how many people had
been killed or wounded, but he played down the
casualty toll, saying: “It would have been worse if
the main church building was hit. Thank God it only happened at the gate.”

First post on this blog: 15 ways to get richer in 2015

According to Business Insider here are 14 strategic actions
that can make you richer in 2015
To make 2015 your most lucrative year yet, you may have to
do some things differently than what you've done in the past.
So, here are 14 action items that will definitely help you in
achieving your financial goals and create wealth in the long
run.
1. Become your own CFO (Chief Financial Officer)
You can't fix what you don't know, so the first step is
becoming completely aware of your finances and where your
money is going.
As soon as you start to understand your current situation in
detail, you will be able to identify leaks
and simple solutions that will help get you on your way.
Nobody cares more about your finances than you do (not
even a financial adviser), so it is on you to take control of
your financial future and direct it to where you want to go.
2. Go on a diet.
I'm not talking about what you eat. Identify one expense that
isn't helping you achieve your goals, and cut it out for 30
days.
A simple expense to choose is cable television. Try a TV (or
other guilty pleasure) diet for 30 days, and use that time and
money on something more beneficial. I'm sure you'll survive
without it just fine.
3. Be selfish.
When you get on an airplane, what do they tell you during the
safety instructions? "Put your own mask on first, and then
help the person beside you."
It should be the same way with our time and our finances. Be
selfish and take care of yourself first, and then you can have
more flexibility to take care of others. The problem is that so
many of us put others first and then aren't able to help
ourselves.
4. Be selfless.
Although you want to be selfish with your time and money at
first, you also want to be selfless with your attitude. The
wealthiest entrepreneurs I know give, give, give, and focus on
helping others. By doing so, more money shows up in return.
Focus on impact and income will result. Be willing to help
others when you can.
5. Improve your credit score.
Credit is boring and I hate to talk about it, but it does make a
difference. Think about it: Most of life's biggest expenses are
purchased on credit. It's important to start to take care of it
now because there is going to be a situation in the future
where you'll wish you had.
The way to improve your credit score again starts with
awareness. Address those now and you'll save yourself many
thousands in the future.
6. Define what true wealth means for you.
In the dictionary, wealth is defined as "a large amount of
money and possessions." However, when you ask someone
who is truly wealthy, you get a completely different answer.
As shown in "Make Money, Live Wealthy," the 75
entrepreneurs that were interviewed most often shared words
like freedom, purpose, family, health, experiences and other
things that mean much more than just money.
Money is an important tool that makes all of these other
things much easier, but it shouldn't necessarily be the goal in
and of itself. Realize this and you will ultimately create your
dream life much sooner.
7. Automate your money.
The key with your finances is to make it as easy as possible
on yourself. The best way to do this is to automate your
finances as much as possible. What this means is that as
soon as money comes in, it is dispersed to your other
accounts automatically.
For instance, you can set up your finances so that money is
taken straight from your paycheck into a retirement
investment account, or from your checking account to pay off
fixed bills like your internet and cable. The less you can worry
about moving your money around and the more you can
focus on optimizing it, the better off you'll be.
The key reason why this works is not only to free up time, but
it helps prevent us from wasting money. If we see extra
money in our account, we'll find a way to spend it and then
won't be left with much if any money to invest in ourselves
and our future. Automation helps keep our priorities in line
and takes the emotions out of it.
8. Add another income stream.
One thing that I learned over and over again from the wealthy
this year is that they never rely on one income stream. They
have numerous sources, which protect them from changes in
the economy and also add up to the greatest numbers.
If you want to make 2015 your most lucrative year yet, your
best bet is likely to add another source of income.
9. Focus on passive and residual income.
There is only so much time in the day, so it's hard to build
wealth quickly when you're trading your time for money.
Instead, the wealthy focus on building income streams where
they can get paid over and over again for their work by
putting their business or money to work for them.
Examples of this include the investing, owning real estate,
running an online business, and writing a book. If you're
going to do the work, you might as well get paid over and
over again for your efforts. Work hard, but also work smart,
and you'll much sooner find the freedom you dream of.
10. Get a library card.
The wealthiest and smartest people in the world have
something in common: They're avid readers.
For very cheap or even free, you can get access to the most
brilliant and inspiring people of all-time. Investing in yourself
is the best investment you can make, and by reading, you are
doing exactly that.
Whether it be audio or in print, books have helped change my
life and bank account and can do the same for you.
11. Track your progress.
It doesn't matter how much money you make. It doesn't even
matter how much you spend. What does matter is how much
you keep.
Every month, track your net worth (I use Mint.com to do this).
This makes you think about the entire picture from income to
expenses to investments to taxes. With this focus, you can
ultimately make the greatest impact on your finances.
12. Cut out 10%.
Even the most frugal people can find 10% of their expenses to
cut. If you then take that 10% and invest it in yourself and in
your future via training, paying off debt, or putting it towards
vehicles that make you money like investing or starting a
business, you'll be much better off.
Try it. Go through your expenses line by line and see what
you can cancel or reduce. I do this practice at least twice per
year to keep things in line, and I find hundreds in savings
each time.
13. Hang out with rich people.
Your network is your net worth. Seriously. As Jim Rohn said,
"You become the average of the five people you spend the
most time with." It doesn't matter if we're talking about
happiness, health, confidence or your income, the people you
hang out with are strongly reflected in your own life.
So, if you have one thing on your 2015 to-do list, it should be
to raise the quality of your peer group. This will have a
domino effect on every other area of your life.
14. Reduce your goals.
Most people don't even create goals, but those that do often
go to the extreme and create too many goals. The ultra-
successful, however, are great at simplifying their mission and
creating a single challenge in front of them at any given time.
As Gary Keller talks about in the great book, "The ONE
Thing," the way to get more is to focus on less. Less
distractions, less stress, and fewer goals lead to more income
and a better lifestyle.
That's it; 14 small steps that can add up to enormous
changes. Remember, new and better actions will lead to new
and better results. Cheers to a happy, healthy and prosperous
2015.
